Can you ride a child on a scooter at Disney World if you rent it outside the park?

Question by Shari S: Can you ride a child on a scooter at Disney World if you rent it outside the park?
I understand the safety policy of not riding a child on one of Disneys Electric Carts, but they take it too far when you are sitting perfectly still and a four year old just sits on it with you while not moving. What about if you rent from a company and have it delivered to DW and then put your child on it? Will they get angry about that? And yes, the woman was very rude about it to us.

No. We will not get angry about that--as long as the 4-year-old is not the one who's steering/driving. If that happens, someone will say something to you about that.

I apologize that someone was rude to you in regard to the safety issue of having a child on the scooter with you. Another issue with those ECV's--in regard the child sitting on it with you when it's stationary--is that they can only hold a certain amount of weight. If you go over the weight limit by riding more than on person on it--or sitting with another on it--it could break. The ECV's that WDW rents out come from an outside source. They do not belong to Disney. That's another reason why cast members are so sensitive about the "rules" regarding them.

Remember, also, when you're riding a scooter that was rented from an off-property source--and you've piled more than one person onto it--that if it breaks, Disney will not offer you a replacement scooter because it was not rented at the park. They will get you a wheelchair and help you get a replacement from the outside company.
