She is pretty active for being in the chair and in shape since she didn't get an electric wheelchair. She wants a dog that can get up on her lap but is independent enough to stay home for 6 hours a day. She does want a playful dog that will fetch or do other activities that she can do.
What are some good breeds for us to look at?

A lap dog
ReplyDeleteMy daughter who is working for a vet gets to meet various disabled people and she tells me that the most common are Labradors and Golden Retrievers. These aer easily trained for Obedience,Push handy for those down wheelchair footplates and disabled access buttons and pedestrian crossing buttons and to alert you of any emergency
ReplyDeleteIf she wants a dog that she can take on walks and hold on to the leash I think a larger dog would be best... a golden retreiver or a black lab...
ReplyDeleteIf she wants a smaller lab dog that she can cuddle and spend time with at home I would suggest a smaller dog... I have a chihuahua and she is perfect for someone in a wheelchair...
Also, take into consideration where she lives... if she lives in a large house and has a fenced in back yard then a large dog would be just fine. If she lives in an apartment then she should get a smaller dog like a chihuahua, yorkie, pug, etc.
Hope this helps! Good luck :)
pomperian, yokies, and other small breed of dog would be good.
